Calling all ages and professional levels for a special 360° mentoring event!

Join YMG and the Mentorship Committee for an engaging evening focused on strengthening the skills and connections that support long-term success in structural engineering. This year’s speed mentoring event will highlight the value of mentorship at every stage of your professional journey—from entry-level to leadership.

The evening will begin with a panel discussion on 360° mentorship—the idea that professional growth happens when we learn from colleagues at all stages of their careers. Our panelists will share their experiences navigating the profession, discuss how mentorship has shaped their careers, and highlight how engineers can seek and provide guidance. Following the panel, participants will take part in a series of small-group “speed round” discussions focused on key career-development topics such as communication, mentoring, and other skills essential for building a strong professional toolkit. Attendees will rotate between groups, creating opportunities for meaningful conversations, fresh perspectives, and practical advice from peers and industry leaders alike.

Whether you are just starting your career, developing your professional path, or guiding the next generation of engineers, this event provides a unique opportunity to connect, learn, and contribute to a supportive mentoring culture within the structural engineering community. Refreshments and light snacks will be provided.

National Rebuilding Day 2026 (Saturday, April 25, 2026)

Rebuilding Together 2026

Join us Saturday, April 25th!

Rebuilding Together is a nationwide home repair and rehabilitation initiative dedicated to keeping low-income homeowners living in safety, warmth, and independence through volunteer services. On the last Saturday in April, teams from all over the country will spend the day making repairs and improvements to their assigned project homes.

SEA-MW has partnered with local chapters in Maryland, Virginia, and DC since 2011, and many of our volunteers join us year after year! The SEA-MW team has consistently been at least 20 to 30 people on rebuilding day, in addition to 10 job captains who prepare and organize projects. In the past, SEA-MW has completed concrete repairs, plumbing repairs, bathroom repairs, replacing doors and windows, exterior and interior painting, landscaping, flooring repairs, fence construction, screened-in porch repairs, etc. Rebuilding Together knows our team can get a lot of great projects done in challenging environments—they are so excited each year to see what we do for our homeowners! We will send information on the specific projects and requested tools closer to the date. Rebuilding Together will provide construction materials. Executive orders restricting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives at federal agencies and among federal contractors have had significant impacts on engineering firms. Whether you are a business leader, legal, or human resources professional, this program will have something for you.

Join Cate McCaffrey with Gibson Dunn to review the latest executive orders and their implications for firms that work for federal clients, as well as risk management steps firms can take. Cate will present an updated version of the presentation she gave last year to ACEC to include the latest changes and court decisions.

Learning Objectives:

Understand what federal requirements have changed and what remains the same
Consider the strategic and practical workforce implications for your company culture
Identify the business processes and business systems that may need to be changed along with the necessary resources to address them

Catherine (“Cate”) McCaffrey, an associate at Gibson Dunn, is a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment, Class Actions, and Litigation Practice Groups. Cate has represented clients in a range of employment litigation matters, including cases on discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination. She has extensive experience helping employers navigate the changing landscape of DEI following the Supreme Court’s decision in SFFA v. Harvard. Cate has helped numerous clients conduct privileged audits of their DEI programs, assess litigation and reputational risks, and forge creative paths to accomplish their DEI objectives in a lawful manner.

Movie Screening & Discussion: Engineers at Ground Zero (Thursday, June 18, 2026)

This powerful film memorializes the efforts of structural engineers during the recovery efforts after 9/11. Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY) produced a documentary film that commemorates the work of structural engineers on and after 9/11. SEAoNY captured the involvement and importance of structural engineers in the rescue and recovery missions, how SEAoNY contributed to the success of the heroic recovery effort, and how lessons learned continue to shape design and emergency response efforts today.
