Judging Criteria:

Projects will be judged on their overall structural engineering achievement based on the following five criteria:

  1. Creativity of structural design
  2. Technical innovations and their influence on design
  3. Ingenuity of design for efficient use of material and labor
  4. How the design solved unusual problems
  5. Quality of execution
  • Specialized Structures and Specialized Elements:

  • In the past the project category of Specialized (non-building) Structures included both structures and elements of a project. This year, those will be divided up into two different categories.

Specialized Structures will now be defined as non-building structures that are supported on their own and are contained within their own project. Examples of Specialized Structures include but are not limited to: pavilions, pedestrian bridges, aqueducts and locks, and sculptures.

Specialized Elements are defined as elements of a larger building project that demonstrate unique structural capabilities. Examples of Specialized Elements include but are not limited to: monumental staircases, balconies, transfer girders, and structural strengthening.
