    A FORUM FOR FUTURE STRUCTURAL ENGINEERS

    This free event held in Washington, DC on October 7, 2022 will be a great opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to learn more about the structural engineering profession, connect with other local structural engineering students, meet with local professionals, participate in the career fair, and get exposure to future potential employers. The program will include presentations by local engineers and a keynote speech by Emily Guglielmo, PE, SE, Principal at Martin/Martin Consulting Engineers. Presentations will touch on a variety of introductory and in-depth topics within the field of Structural Engineering.

    There will also be a career fair attended by many of the premier local (and global) structural engineering firms. With the local construction market heating up and structural engineering offices busier than ever, this will be a great opportunity to get your resume in the hands of local companies and secure a full-time or internship position for the coming year.

    There will be a 100 student limit for Next Step 2022, with registration on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Tracking Embodied Carbon for Structural Engineers

    Ready to put your knowledge of embodied carbon into action? Sean Augustino (Arup) and Chris Bird (Silman) will lead a step-by-step guided demonstration of how to quickly estimate and track embodied carbon through the design process, from early stages through construction. They will highlight specific, publicly available resources to teach these methods. This presentation will equip you with additional knowledge and skills to support your firm and the broader SE industry’s goal to understand, reduce, and ultimately eliminate embodied carbon in projects by 2050.

    The event will be a Virtual presentation followed by an open Q&A session. We will hear from the following presenters:

    Chris Bird, LEED AP BD+C - Project Engineer with Silman.

    Sean Augustino, PE, SE, LFA - Senior Structural Engineer with Arup.
