National Air and Space Museum Revitalization Project Tour
The National Air and Space Museum is undergoing a monumental multi-year renovation, which began in 2018 and includes complete refacing of the exterior cladding, replacement of outdated mechanical systems, and other repairs and improvements. Construction of the entire project will be completed in 2024 with galleries opening in phases ahead of the building's 50th anniversary in July 2026.
Transforming every visitor's experience, the design teams are using creative and dynamic techniques to engage visitors while they are at the museum and after they leave. All 23 exhibitions are completely reimagined, with new presentation spaces and attractions.
If you ever wondered about the role of a structural engineer on a project like this; if you ever wondered about the logistical coordination required from delivery of the exhibits to putting them on display, hanging several feet off the ground, this is your opportunity! Join the SEA-MW YMG for a behind-the-scenes tour of the ongoing construction site for phase 2 of the revitalization project and the already completed portion of the museum for a customized museum tour with a structural engineering perspective!
The tour will begin at the construction trailer office of Clark/Smoot/Consigli JV, and you'll hear about the project from the engineers and construction team who are helping design and execute this challenging project.
This event is free and open to all, but spaces are limited! Due to security reasons, RSVP is required.
Registration closes on Sunday 18th, 2024 at midnight.
Trust us, you won't want to miss this chance to witness history in the making!
