What’s Feasible in a Feasibility Study?

Feasibility studies are an important first step in determining the viability of any project – but often defining what is feasible can be challenging as parameters can vary greatly from project to project. Cost, schedule, availability, life safety, governing jurisdiction requirements, etc. can play a critical role. How can structural engineers better help educate stakeholders in making this determination while also maintaining a scope of work that is appropriate for a preliminary study? In this webinar, our presenters will discuss managing expectations, defining assumptions and limitations, as well as share real world examples for both new and existing construction.

Presenters:

  • Kelsey E. Sheridan, PE is a structural engineer and project manager with experience in investigations, condition assessments, repair and rehabilitation design, and construction management services on contemporary and historically significant buildings and structures. Her project experience includes concrete, masonry, steel, and wood construction spanning civil, commercial, residential, and institutional projects, as well as several historic landmarks. She currently serves as a Senior Project Manager at Georgetown University bringing her problem-solving expertise within the built world to the Capital Projects portfolio.

  • Michael D. Zajac, PE LEED AP, is a structural engineer in the DC office of Simpson Gumpertz and Heger with over 20 years of experience in the DC region and is the current past chairperson of SEA-MW. His experience includes all project phases of structural design for new construction and renovation, structural modeling, field surveys, third party representation, and condition assessment of existing structures. His passion lies in offering structural consulting services for historic buildings and residential renovations. When not at his desk or crawling around historic buildings, he can be found cranking out long-distance bike rides on his Trek Madone.

The link for this Zoom based webinar will be sent to all registrants prior to the event. SEA-MW business items will be discussed from 12pm to 12:15pm, while the presentation is expected to last from 12:15pm to 1:30pm.
