Global Engineering Impact: Volunteer Projects for a Better Tomorrow

Looking to put your engineering skills to work or for opportunities to get out of the office or even out of the country? This SEA-MW dinner meeting will include presentations from three different engineering volunteer organizations so you can learn about hands-on ways to get involved from Central and South America to Africa. You will hear from engineers, like you, who are involved in Bridges to Prosperity, Engineers Without Borders, and Engineers in Action. This meeting is for everyone – from firm owners looking to support the philanthropic interests of their employees to any employee looking to give back outside of their day jobs.

Presenters:

Sadia Fatemi

Sadia is an associate at Thornton Tomasetti in Washington, DC in the Protective Design and Security practice where she serves as project manager on many government projects. She recently traveled to Rwanda with Bridges to Prosperity as a part of a Thornton Tomasetti corporate project to complete a pedestrian suspended bridge project. She also serves as an ACE mentor at Jackson Reed High School.

Bret Busse

Bret is a 35 year employee at Walter P. Moore where he is a Principal and a Sr. Project Manager on a wide array of projects. Growing up the son of a general contractor, he has broad and practical knowledge of both construction and structural engineering. Bret joined Engineers Without Borders in 2017 and serves as a project lead for the Community Library Center project in the remote mountains of Panama. He also serves on the EWB-USA standing structures committee and is a mentor the Virginia Tech student chapter of EWB.
